Sam Heughan (Any Human Heart) has been cast in Starz’s upcoming 16 episode drama series Outlander. Heughan has been cast as Jamie Fraser, a strapping young Scottish clan lord with a complicated past and a disarming sense of humor.  He is intelligent, principled, and, by 18th century standards, educated and worldly, with a tenderness and compassion that stands out in contrast to his contemporaries. A natural leader of men, he has no political ambitions or desire for battlefield glories. Instead, he wishes to remove the price on his head and return to his family’s ancestral farm.

BBC Two Cancels ‘Heading Out’, Renews ‘Count Arthur Strong’ For Second Season

BBC Two has cancelled Sue Perkins’ comedy series Heading Out after airing just one season of the series, TVWise has confirmed. In addition, the broadcaster today announced that they had renewed Count Arthur Strong, which premiered last night to just under 1 million viewers, for a second season. 7 half-hour episode have been ordered for the show’s second season and I’ve confirmed that, just as was the case for Citizen Khan and Blandings, the 7th episode is in fact an order for a Christmas special.

Brian Cox & Julie Graham Join BBC One’s ‘Shetland’

Brian Cox (Bob Servant Independent) and Julie Graham (Being Eileen) have joined the cast of BBC One’s drama series Shetland for its upcoming six episode second season. Cox will appear in the first two-parter Raven Black where he will play Magnus Bain, a solitary man and social outsider who finds himself the focus of a murder investigation. Graham will be playing procurator fiscal Rhona Kelly, a recurring character who will make her mark in the opening and closing episodes of season 2.
