AMC Picks Up ‘Halt & Catch Fire’ And ‘Turn’ To Series

AMC is adding two new scripted series to its slate of originals. The network has picked up their drama pilots Halt & Catch Fire and Turn to series, marking the first time that AMC has ordered two scripted series in the same cycle. These two new entries join a growing slate of drama series on the network which includes Hell On Wheels, Low Winter Sun, The Killing, Mad Men and The Walking Dead. Both Halt & Catch Fire and Turn have received 10 episode orders and will enter production later this year for 2014 premieres.

Starz Renews ‘Black Sails’ For Second Season

Employing the same tactic they employed with such series as Sparticus and Boss, Starz has handed an early renewal to their pirate drama series Black Sails. The network has renewed the skein for a 10 episode second season, this several months before the series is set to premiere in early 2014. Production on the second season of Black Sails is set to commence on location in Cape Town, South Africa, this November.

Shannyn Sossamon Joins Fox’s ‘Wayward Pines’

Shannyn Sossamon (Mistresses) has joined the cast of Fox’s upcoming event series Wayward Pines as a series regular. Sossamon has been cast as Theresa Burke, Ethan’s wife. The two met when she was still a trainee in the US Secret Service but subsequently left the agency to raise their son Ben.

Fox Announces Blu-Ray Releases For ‘The X-Files’ Films, Are Season Sets Next?

As any ardent fan will tell you, the 20th anniversary of The X-Files is rapidly approaching. To celebrate the event, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has announced some new X-Files home video releases for the UK market. Per Fox’s announcement, they will be releasing, on September 2nd, The X-Files: Fight The Future on Blu-ray Disc and a limited edition steel-book, specially designed to mark the 20th anniversary, which will contain both feature films (Fox also used yesterday’s press release to plug a complete series box set which also contains both films in DVD format, however, this was released in October 2012 and is not a “new release to mark the 20th” by any stretch of the imagination).

UPDATE: Alibi Reschedules UK Premiere For ‘Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries’ Season 2 To October 1st

UPDATE, August 21st: Miss Fisher is on the move. After initially announcing a premiere date of September 10th for the second season of Australian period drama Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, UKTV has since rescheduled the series. Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries will now premiere on the company’s Alibi channel on Tuesday October 1st at 9pm.
