Harvey Weinstein’s The Weinstein Company has closed a deal to board BBC One’s upcoming 6 episode adaptation of the gargantuan Tolstoy novel War and Peace – which is being hailed as one of the most ambitious dramas ever tackled by the BBC – it was announced today at MIPCOM.
BBC One has ordered a 30 minute special of its comedy series Open All Hours – which aired for four seasons between 1973 and 1985 – titled Still Open All Hours which will form part of the channel’s Christmas schedule.
LOVEFiLM has closed a deal with Tandem Communications to acquire the exclusive first run UK broadcast rights to Crossing Lines, the drama series from Criminal Minds executive producer Edward Allen Bernero which stars William Fichtner and Donald Sutherland. The deal between LOVEFiLM and Tandem covers both the first season and the recently ordered second season of the series.
National Geographic is the latest network to venture into scripted series. The network has handed a series order to Act of Valor, a scripted series based on the feature film of the same name which hails from Relativity Television and Tandem Communications. Act of Valor marks the first scripted series for Relativity, who are behind numerous successful features and unscripted series.

Oscar winner Halle Berry has been cast as the lead in Extant, CBS’ upcoming 13 episode drama series from Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television which the network has on tap for Summer 2014, TVWise has learned. In addition, Berry and her production partner Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas have inked a two-year first look production deal with CBS Television Studios.
