FX Renews ‘The Strain’ For Third Season, Sets Premiere Dates For ‘The Bastard Executioner’, ‘Fargo’ & More
FX has renewed their hit vampire drama The Strain for a 13 episode third season, FX Networks CEO John Landgraf announced during the company's executive panel at the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour. The network has also picked up two new comedy series and set premiere dates for 'The Bastard Executioner', 'American Horror Story: Hotel' and the second season of 'Fargo'. 
Colin Morgan (The Fall, Merlin) and Charlotte Spencer (Glue, Line Of Duty) have been set as the leads in The Living And The Dead, BBC One's six episode supernatural thriller from Life On Mars and Eternal Law creators Ashley Pharoah and Matthew Graham.
HBO has released the first teaser trailer for Vinyl, their upcoming rock & roll drama from Martin Scorsese, Mick Jagger and former Boardwalk Empire showrunner Terence Winter.
HBO is staying in business with The Wire creator David Simon. The premium cable network has given the greenlight to two hour-long drama projects from Simon. The first, starring James Franco, is set in the world of the porn industry in the 1970s; while the second is a contemporary political drama set on Capitol Hill.
During the Fox Executive Panel at the TCAs, network toppers Dana Walden & Gary Newman made a flurry of programming announcements including that they are moving forward with a 10 episode Prison Break revival, development is underway on a 24 reboot without Sutherland as Jack Bauer, Bones & Sleepy Hollow will crossover this Fall and more.
After taking in the project in March after it was initially developed for TNT, USA Network has handed out a formal pilot order to Shooter, a hour-long drama series based on the 2007 feature film of the same name and Stephen Hunter's novel Point Of Impact. Ryan Phillippe (Secrets & Lies) has also boarded the project and will play the lead.
In what is her first major television role following stints on CSI: Miami and The Comedians, Olivia Taylor Dudley has joined the cast of Syfy's 13 episode Lev Grossman adaptation The Magicians as a series regular, TVWise has learned. She will play Alice, an intensely shy and delicately lovely young woman. Born of a magical but neglectful family, Alice is an outcast among her fellow students at Brakebills, but nonetheless emerges as the most brilliant magical practitioner in her class.
Despite reports to the contrary, Community has not been cancelled just yet. Word that the show had run its course spread like wild-fire over the past day, after series star Joel McHale gave an interview to Metro Weekly in which he stated that there would be no seventh season of Community, despite all the involved parties wanting it, due to financial issues. Yahoo Screen meanwhile maintains that they are "still in discussions" with Sony about the show's future.
