BBC Orders Trio Of Dramas From Nicole Taylor, Michaela Coel & Sally Rooney

Three female authored dramas are coming to the BBC. The PSB has commissioned three new dramas from Nicole Taylor, Michaela Coel (pictured, right) and Sally Rooney. The announcement comes on the same day that Coel is set ti deliver the McTaggart lecture at the Edinburgh TV Festival. The three series will go out on BBC One, BBC Two and BBC Three, respectively. “I am honoured to be today announcing three brand new and contrasting dramas for BBC One, Two and Three", said the BBC's Controller of Drama Piers Wenger.

BBC One Orders Two-Part Elephant Man Drama Starring Charlie Heaton

BBC One has given the green-light to The Elephant Man, a two-part drama starring Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things) as Joseph Merrick - better known as The Elephant Man. “I’m extremely excited and honoured to be given the opportunity to take on the portrayal of Joseph Merrick in the BBC’s adaption of The Elephant Man", Heaton said. "This is such a special role and a challenge for any actor. Joseph has such an incredible story and I can’t wait to go on this journey and bring him to life.”

It’s Official: ITV’s ‘The Durrells’ To End With Season 4

It's finally official. ITV has confirmed that the upcoming fourth season of The Durrells will be the show's last. Production on the show's final season is set to get underway next month in Corfu, with an eye towards a 2019 premiere. “I'm delighted to be heading back to Corfu for a final series of The Durrells, said lead actress Keeley Hawes ."It's been such a wonderful series to work on and I'm so pleased that viewers have taken the family to their hearts as much as we have. I have no doubt that the brilliant Simon Nye will give the family a fitting and fabulous farewell.”

Ben Barnes To Star Opposite Julia Ormond In BBC One’s ‘Gold Digger’

Ben Barnes (Westworld) has been cast to star opposite Julia Ormond in BBC One's six episode drama series Gold Digger. He will play Benjamin Golding, the thirty something copywriter with a shrouded past who becomes involved with an older woman, Julia Day (Ormond).

Channel 4 Closes Out Jack Thorne Trilogy With ‘The Light’

Channel 4 is completing their trilogy of Jack Thorne four-part dramas. The PSB has given the greenlight to The Light, the final four part drama from the scribe behind the award winning Harry Potter & The Cursed Child. The first two entries in the trilogy, National Treasure and Kiri, aired on Channel 4 in 2016 and 2018, respectively. The Light takes a look at disability and will focus on the repercussions of a catastrophic disaster that befalls a community in a small Welsh town which has seen more prosperous times. The disaster claims the lives of many, children included and, as personal and communal grief gives way to a torrent of anger and blame, the community finds itself torn apart.

Tom Bateman Set As Lead In ITV’s ‘Beecham House’; Lesley Nichol, Adil Ray & More Also Cast

ITV has set the cast for Beecham House. Tom Bateman has been set as the lead in the six episode period drama from Bend It Like Beckhan co-writer, director and producer Gurinder Chadha and Shahrukh Husain. Beecham House is set on the cusp of the 19th century in Delhi and depicts the fortunes of the residents of Beecham House, an imposing mansion surrounded by acres of exotic woods and pristine lawns. Handsome and soulful, former soldier, John Beecham, has acquired the house to start a new life for his family and a business as a trader.
