UKTV Ups Competition In U.S. Acquisitions; “Bigger Threat Than Netflix”, Rivals Say

Over the past five years UKTV has been steadily growing in importance with the Hollywood Studios as they acquire first run on more U.S. dramas. This year saw the broadcaster increase the competition in acquisitions once again with a move into comedy and a deal for Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders, Quantico and Code Black. But in the acquisitions space, just how much of a threat is UKTV to the more established kids on the block such as Channel 4 and Sky?

Acquisitions Buzz: ‘DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow’, ‘Killjoys’ & ‘Wicked City’ Heading To The UK?

TVWise has identified three new shows that various UK broadcasters are close to acquiring. Those shows include The CW's eagerly anticipated Arrow and The Flash spin-off DC's Legends Of Tomorrow, starring Brandon Routh, Caity Lotz and Victor Garber; Canadian sci-fi drama Killjoys starring Warehouse 13's Aaron Ashmore, which airs on Syfy in the United States; and ABC new period crime drama Wicked City.

Alibi To Air Two-Hour ‘Murdoch Mysteries’ Christmas Special; Brendan Coyle, Kelly Rowan & Ed Asner Guest Star

Detective William Murdoch, Dr Julia Ogden and the Toronto constabulary will be bringing some festive cheer to UKTV this Christmas. UKTV's Alibi channel has revealed plans to air a special two-hour Christmas episode of Murdoch Mysteries on Tuesday December 22nd at 9pm as a stand alone TV movie (under the title Murdoch Mysteries: A Merry Murdoch Christmas), before the show's ninth season launches on the channel in 2016.
