Sky Witness Poaches UK Rights To ‘Chicago PD’, Sets Season 7 Premiere For January 3rd

Chicago PD is switching broadcasters here in the UK. Sky Witness has secured the UK rights to the Chicago Fire spin-off, after the previous six seasons all aired on Channel 5’s digi-net 5USA. The show’s seventh season will receive its UK premiere on Sky Witness on Friday January 3rd at 10pm.

With this move, Sky Witness has now mirrored the strategy of their new corporate sibling NBC in creating a dedicated Chicago block on their schedule. Beginning on January 3rd, said block will run on Friday nights with Med at 8pm, Fire at 9pm, and PD at 10pm. It’s worth noting that Sky’s sister company NBCUniversal International Distribution handles global sales for the Chicago franchise.

Created by Derek Haas & Michael Brandt, Chicago PD follows the men and women of the Chicago Police Department’s elite Intelligence Unit, which is led by Detective Sergeant Hank Voight, as they combat the city’s most heinous offenses, from organized crime, to drug trafficking, high-profile murders and beyond. The drama series is produced by Universal Television and stars Jason Beghe, Jesse Lee Soffer, Patrick John Flueger, Marina Squerciati, LaRoyce Hawkins, Amy Morton and Tracy Spiridakos.

In the opening episode of season seven, titled Doubt, when Kelton is found murdered, Voight’s grudge against the mayor-elect puts him under suspicion. Upton and Halstead are eager to prove their sergeant’s innocence, but the more evidence they gather, the closer they come to doing the opposite. After making bail, Ruzek searches for a missing Antonio. Jon Seda, who was played Antonio Dawson since before Chicago PD was even conceived, has exited the show ahead of season seven.
