First Images: Steve McQueen’s BBC One Series ‘Small Axe’

BBC One has released five first look images from Small Axe, their upcoming six episode anthology series from Oscar winner Steve McQueen.

Small Axe is an anthology series that tells stories set within London’s West Indian community from the late 1960s to the early 80s. The series will tell five distinct stories, with the first such story being spread across two episodes. The title is derived from a Jamaican proverb which has resonance throughout the Caribbean, “if you are the big tree, we are the small axe. Amazon Prime Video has licensed the rights for the U.S. market.

McQueen penned the episodes with Alastair Siddons and Courttia Newland. The series is being produced by Turbine Studios and stars John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens), Letitia Wright (Black Panther), Malachi Kirby (Curfew, Black Mirror, Roots), Shaun Parkes (Lost In Space, Hooten & The Lady), Rochenda Sandall (Line Of Duty, Black Mirror: Bandersnatch), Alex Jennings (A Very English Scandal, Victoria) and Jack Lowden (The Long Song, Mary Queen Of Scots).
