Douglas Henshall (Shetland, Outlander), Louise Lombard (CSI: Crime Scene Investigation) and Neve McIntosh (Cheat, Stan Lee’s Lucky Man). have been set to star in The Small Hand, Channel 5’s feature-length adaptation of Susan Hill’s ghost story.
The Small Hand follows Adam Snow, an antique book dealer who finds himself haunted by the ghost of a young boy. As Adam investigates the strange occurrences, he suffers nightmares as he receives further, increasingly sinister, visits from the ghost, ultimately revealing a haunting secret from his own childhood.
Douglas Henshall has been cast as Adam Snow; Louise Lombard as Adam’s secret lover Alice Merriman; and Neve McIntosh as Denisa Parsons. Rounding out the cast is Adrian Rawlins (Chernobyl, Shetland) as Alice’s husband and Adam’s client, Edward Merriman; Cal MacAnich (The Victim) as Hugo Snow, Adam’s brother, who is wrestling with his own demons; Maryam Hamidi as Hugo’s wife, Benedicta; and Paul Barber (Casualty, The Full Monty) as spiritual healer Thierry, who tries to excise the ghosts from Adam’s life.
Waking The Dead creator Barbara Machin penned the script for the adaptation, which is set up as a co-production between Two Rivers Media and Awesome Media & Entertainment. Jane Steventon is the producer, while Justin Molotnikov is attached to direct. The executive producers are Jeff Norton for Awesome, Alan Clements for Two Rivers Media, and Mark Thomas for Screen Scotland. Susan Hill and Barbara Machin will also executive produce. Production is now underway in Scotland. Kew Media Distribution is handling global sales.
