Netflix UK’s police procedural Criminal – starring David Tennant (Doctor Who), Hayley Atwell (Marvel’s Agent Carter) and Lee Ingleby (Inspector George Gently) – is set to premiere on Friday September 20th, it has been announced.
Criminal is a procedural stories set in 4 different countries: France, Spain, Germany and the UK. It takes place exclusively within the confines of a police interview suite. This stripped down, cat-and-mouse drama focuses on the intense mental conflict between detectives and suspects. There are three episodes per country; with each written, directed and starring talent from each of the four countries. George Kay and Jim Field Smith co-created the series, which is being produced by Idiotlamp Productions and directed by Jim Field Smith, Frederic Mermoud, Oliver Hirschbiegel, Mariano Barroso.
In addition to David Tennant, Hayley Atwell and Lee Ingleby, the UK cast includes Katherine Kelly, Nicholas Pinnock, Mark Stanley, Rochenda Sandall, Shubham Saraf, Youssef Kerkour and Clare-Hope Ashitey. The French cast includes Margot Bancilhon, Laurent Lucas, Stéphane Jobert, Anne Azoulay, Mhamed Arezki, Nathalie Baye, Jérémie Renier and Sara Giraudeau. The German cast includes Eva Meckbach, Sylvester Groth, Florence Kasumba, Christian Kuchenbuch, Jonathan Berlin, Peter Kurth, Christian Berkel, Deniz Arora and Nina Hoss. While the Spanish cast includes Jorge Bosch, José Ángel Egido, Nuria Mencía, Daniel Chamorro, María Morales, Javi Coll, Milo Taboada, Carmen Machi, Inma Cuesta, Eduard Fernández, Emma Suárez, Álvaro Cervantes.
