The BBC is staying in business with former Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat. BBC One has commissioned a four-part mini-series from Moffat, which he wrote on spec.
Inside Man tells the story of a prisoner on death row in the US and a woman trapped in a cellar under an English vicarage, cross paths in the most unexpected way.
Hartswood Films, the indie behind both Sherlock and Moffat’s upcoming BBC One Dracula series, are producing. Sue Vertue will executive produce. Production on the four-parter is set to get underway in 2020.
“In our ongoing relationship with Steven and Sue (Vertue), they sent us this mini-series which Steven had written on spec and we commissioned it instantly”, said the BBC’s Controller of Drama Piers Wenger, who commissioned the miniseries alongside the BBC’s Director of Content Charlotte Moore. “The script is a page-turner and grips you from the outset, and Charlotte and I couldn’t resist bringing this story to BBC One.”
