Chicago Med is switching UK channels. Sky Witness has picked up the UK rights to the series, after the show’s first four seasons aired on Universal TV. Seasons one through four are now available via Sky On-Demand. Additionally, Sky One has also secured the UK rights to Manifest, NBC’s thriller series starring Melissa Roxburgh and Josh Dallas. Warner Bros. International Television Distribution handles sales for Manifest.
TVWise understands that the relocation of Med to Sky Witness is a result of Comcast’s recent acquisition of Sky, which made the satcaster and NBCUniversal corporate siblings. The move is a logical one, with Med being a better fit for Sky Witness, which has a strong emphasis on procedurals. It’s also worth noting that following the Comcast deal, Sky now manages NBCU’s UK channels (Syfy UK, Universal TV). TVWise has reached out to Sky for comment.
From Dick Wolf, Chicago Med is described as an emotional thrill ride through the day-to-day chaos of the city’s most explosive hospital and the courageous team of doctors who hold it together. Inspired by ripped-from-the-headlines cases, the series will weave cutting-edge medicine with the personal drama that comes with working in such a high-intensity environment.
The drama series is produced by Universal Television and stars Oliver Platt, S. Epatha Merkerson, Nick Gehlfuss, Yaya Dacosta, Brian Tee, Rachel DiPillo, Torrey DeVitto and Marlyne Barrett. Dick Wolf, Diane Frolov, Andrew Schneider, Michael Waxman, Matt Olmstead, Michael Brandt, Derek Haas, Arthur Forney, and Peter Jankowski are executive producers. Colin Donnell, who played Doctor Connor Rhoades since season one, recently exited Chicago Med and will not be back for season five.
Manifest tells the story of Montego Air Flight 828. When it landed safely after a turbulent but routine flight, the crew and passengers were relieved. Yet in the span of those few hours, the world had aged five years and their friends, families and colleagues, after mourning their loss, had given up hope and moved on.
Now, faced with the impossible, they’re all given a second chance. But as their new realities become clear, a deeper mystery unfolds and some of the returned passengers soon realize they may be meant for something greater than they ever thought possible. The drama series is produced by Warner Bros. Television, Universal Television, Compari Entertainment and Jeff Rake Productions and stars Melissa Roxburgh, Josh Dallas, Athena Karkanis, J.R. Ramirez , Luna Blaise, Jack Messina and Parveen Kaur. NBC has renewed Manifest for a second season.
