Comedy Central UK has secured the UK rights to ABC’s single-camera comedy series Single Parents after striking a deal with international distributor Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution. The show’s first season will premiere on Monday August 5th at 9pm with a double-bill.
Single Parents follows a group of single parents as they lean on each other to help raise their 7-year-old kids and maintain some kind of personal lives outside of parenthood. The series begins when the group meets Will Cooper, a 30-something guy who’s been so focused on raising his daughter that he’s lost sight of who he is as a man.
When the other single parents see just how far down the rabbit hole of PTA, parenting and princesses Will has gone, they band together to get him out in the world and make him realize that being a great parent doesn’t mean sacrificing everything about your own identity. The comedy series is produced by 20th Century Fox Television and ABC Studios and stars Taran Killam, Leighton Meester, Kimrie Lewis, Jake Choi, Marlow Barkley, Tyler Wladis, Devin Trey Campbell, Mia Allan, Ella Allan and Brad Garrett. ABC has ordered a second season.
Single Parents is a rare first run third-party buy for Comedy Central UK. The channel, which is well served by the pipe-line of content from the US Comedy Central network, has only one other third part acquisition on their slate: the animated comedy Bob’s Burgers, which, like Single Parents, is distributed globally by Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution.
