UKTV’s Gold channel has handed out a series order to The Cockfields, a three episode scripted comedy from David Earl & Joe Wilkinson. Kim Cattrall (Sex And The City), Joe Wilkinson (After Life), Diane Morgan (Motherland), Sue Johnston (The Royle Family), Bobby Ball (Not Going Out) and Nigel Havers (Murder On The Blackpool Express) are attached to star.
The Cockfields follows Simon, who is taking girlfriend Donna back home to the Isle of Wight for the very first time. he has been persuaded to mark the occasion of his 40th birthday back at the Cockfield family home and there’s a fair amount of Isle of Wight “fun” in store for the pair of them. Can Simon survive a long (very long) birthday weekend with his biological and extended family without losing his cool, or his girlfriend?
Kim Cattrall has been cast as Melissa, Simons’s dad’s new american girlfriend; Joe Wilkinson as Simon; Diane Morgan as Donna, Simon’s girlfriend; Sue Johnston as Sue, Simon’s ever-doting mother; Bobby Ball as Ray, Simon’s controlling stepdad; and Nigel Havers as Larry, Simon’s father. Rounding out the cast is Ben Rufus Green (Alan Partridge’s Scissored Isle) as Simon’s Alan Titchmarsh-obsessed stepbrother David, and Jeff Mirza (Man Like Mobeen) as the Cockfields’ oddball handyman neighbour Andre.
The Cockfields was penned by David Earl & Joe Wilkinson and is being produced by Yellow Door Productions. It was commissioned by UKTV’s Head of Scripted Pete Thornton, and ordered by UKTV’s Director of Commissioning Richard Watsham and Gold Channel Director Gerald Casey. Friday Night Dinner helmer Steve Bendelack is directing. John Rushton is the series producer. The executive producers are Lucy Lumsden and Lucy Ansbro. The three-part series is expected to air on Gold later this year.
“Hats off to David and Joe, scripts this good are very hard to come by and they’ve helped Yellow Door attract an incredible cast for our latest scripted adventure on Gold”, said UKTV’s Pete Thornton. “The Cockfields is a thoroughly modern family comedy about a relatable shared experience – that weekend back at home when your no doubt well-meaning relatives just get more and more annoying with every passing hour. We’re delighted to be working with such a talented team – both in front of and behind the camera – on this charming, beautifully observed three-parter.”
