Alibi has picked up two new U.S. acquisitions. The UKTV owned and operated channel has struck deals with WarnerMedia and Endeavor Content for TNT’s I Am The Night and Paramount Network’s Waco, respectively. Both series will premiere on Alibi later this year.
I Am The Night tells the story of Fauna Hodel, a teenage girl who is given away at birth, and grows up outside of Reno, Nevada. Fauna lives more-or-less comfortably with the mysteries of her origin, until one day she makes a discovery that leads her to question everything. As Fauna begins to investigate the secrets of her past, she meets a ruined reporter, haunted by the case that undid him.
Together they follow a sinister trail that swirls ever closer to an infamous Los Angeles gynecologist, Dr. George Hodel, a man involved in some of Hollywood’s darkest debauchery, and possibly, its most infamous unsolved crime. The six episode limited series, which is inspired by true events, is produced by Studio T and stars Chris Pine, India Eisley, Jefferson Mays, Leland Orser, Yul Vazquez, Dylan Smith, Golden Brooks, Justin Cornwell, Jay Paulson and Connie Nielsen. Patty Jenkins, Michael Sugar, Chris Pine and Sam Sheridan serve as executive producers.
“I am excited to be bringing this dark and atmospheric story to Alibi”, said Emma Ayech, Channel Director for Alibi. “Chris Pine and India Eisley smoulder in this stylish noir thriller based on the incredible true story of Fauna Hodel, a child born into 1950’s rural America, who discovers her true origins are a world away in the rich and debauched world of post war LA. I Am the Night is an addictive thriller that will take Alibi into new dramatic territory this summer.”
Waco tells the true story of the infamous FBI raid on on charismatic cult leader David Koresh and his devoted followers. After what became the longest fiery gun battle in U.S. law enforcement history, four agents and six civilians were left dead, and dozens more were wounded. 51 days later, a fire engulfed the com- pound, killing 76 men, women and children inside.
The six episode miniseries originally aired state-side last year and was penned by John Erick Dowdle and Drew Dowdle. The cast includes Taylor Kitsch, Michael Shannon, Andrea Riseborough, John Leguizamo, Melissa Benoist, Julie Garner, Rory Culkin, Paul Sparks, Shea Whigham and Camryn Manheim. Shannon, Kitsch, the Dowdle brothers and Salvatore Stabile serve as executive producers. UKTV’s Head of Acquisitions brokered both licensing agreements with WarnerMedia and Endeavor Content.
“Waco is one of the most thrilling and tense series I’ve seen in a long time”, said Emma Ayech, Channel Director for Alibi. “The performances from Taylor Kitsch and Michael Shannon are in a league of their own and bring out the previously unseen human side to this infamous story. We can’t wait for our viewers to see this Emmy-nominated event series as we continue to offer bold, new and exclusive stories for Alibi audiences.”
