5USA Acquires NBC’s ‘Hannibal’, Eyes May Premiere

Hannibal is getting another UK home. Channel 5 has acquired the former NBC drama for their digi-net 5USA. Gaumont International Television handles global sales. The show’s first season will premiere on 5USA later this month.

The series, which was cancelled after a three season run on NBC state-side, originally aired in the UK on Sky Living between 2013 and 2015. Gaumont International Television has also licensed the complete series to Netflix UK. This is the latest acquisition for 5USA in the past few months. The channel has also recently struck deals to pick up both TNT’s Perception and NBCU’s Gone.

Developed for NBC by Bryan Fuller, Hannibal is a contemporary take on the characters from Thomas Harris’ Red Dragon novel and as such will revolve around FBI Special Agent Will Graham and his mentor, Dr. Hannibal Lecter. The drama series is produced by Gaumont International Television and stars Hugh Dancy, Mads Mikkelsen, Caroline Dhavernas, Lara Jean Chorostecki and Laurence Fishburne. Notable guest stars include Gillian Anderson (The X-Files), Lance Henriksen (Millennium) and Eddie Izzard (Mockingbird Lane).
