Sony Pictures Television has lined up two European sales for Stellify Media’s format Beauty Queen & Single. NPO 3/ KRO NCRV has commissioned a local adaptation in the Netherlands, while Aito Media has also optioned the format in Finland.
Beauty Queen & Single, originally commissioned by BBC Northern Irleand, follows six beauty queens who can’t find Mr. Right and so take off their makeup and go dating undercover. In each episode, one of the six beauty queens go undercover in a unique dating experiment – 5 guys, 5 dates, no makeup. The format was created by Stellify Media and is distributed internationally by Sony Pictures Television.
The Dutch adaptation will focus on six beautiful and smart professionals, who have very diverse backgrounds including lawyers, IT specialists and veterinary assistants, but who all have two things in common: as pretty as they are, they never go out without their make-up and they are all very single. But with the goal to finally find true love they will strip off their make-up and venture into the world of dating. Vincent TV – the indie behind Holland’s Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? – is producing the series.
“Beauty Queen & Single is our very favourite show at Stellify. It was wonderful to watch a hit at home find such a huge audience on iplayer – and we’re getting that same feeling again as we watch the format travel”, said Matthew Worthy, Joint Managing Director of Stellify Media. “It’s particularly exciting to watch the casting widen outside of Beauty Queens as we go – to include the over-filtered but under-loved insta-famous”.
