Some details on Bond 25 have now been confirmed. In a special announcement made from Ian Fleming’s Goldeneye villa in Jamaica, producers confirmed that Daniel Craig would be returning for his fifth and final time as James Bond.
He will be joined by Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody, Mr. Robot), Ana de Armas (Blade Runner 2049, Overdrive), Billy Magnussen (Tell Me A Story, Aladdin), David Dencik (Top Of The Lake, Rig 45), Lashana Lynch (Bulletproof, Still Star-Crossed) and Dali Benssalah (Nox).
While no character details were confirmed, Malek is rumoured to be playing the film’s villain. These newcomers to the franchise join a returning cast that, in addition to Daniel Craig, also includes: Ben Whishaw as Q, Ralph Fiennes as M, Naomie Harris as Moneypenny, Jeffrey Wright as Felix Leiter, Rory Kinnear as Tanner, and Lea Seydoux as Madeleine Swann.
While there was no confirmation of the title of the film, producers did reveal the plot of Bond 25. James Bond is no longer on active duty with MI6 and is enjoying his life in Jamaica. But his peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.
The script for the film was penned by Neil Purvis, Robert Wade, Scott Z. Burns and Phoebe Waller-Bridge. True Detective helmer Cary Joji Fukunaga is directing. Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson are producing. Filming will take place in Norway, Jamaica, Pinewood Studios and Italy. Universal Pictures International and MGM will release the film in the UK and internationally from April 3rd, 2020; while MGM (via United Artists Releasing) will release the film state-side on April 8th, 2020.
