Sky Atlantic has rounded out the cast for Little Birds. Hugh Skinner (Fleabag, W1A), Rossy De Palma (Broken Embraces, Julieta), Nina Sosanya (Marcella, Last Tango in Halifax) and Jean-Marc Barr (The Cellar, Cut Off) have been cast in the 1950s set drama. The join previously announced main cast members Juno Temple, Yumna Marwan and Raphael Acloque.
Little Birds is set in Tangier in 1955, in the famous ‘international zone’ – one of the last outposts of colonial decadence, and a culture shock in more ways than one for troubled American debutante Lucy Savage. Lucy desires an unconventional life free from the society cage she’s been kept in and, along with Tangier itself, finds herself on the cusp of achieving a painful yet necessary independence.
Hugh Skinner has been cast as Hugo Cavendish-Smyth, an aristocratic English Lord set to marry American heiress Lucy but whose heart lies elsewhere; Rossy De Palma as Contessa Mandrax, the beating social heart of the colony; Nina Sosanya as glamorous actress Lili Von X, who encourages Lucy to live her life her way; and Jean-Marc Barr as Secretary Pierre Vaney, who is desperately in love with Cherifa Lamour.
The six episode series, which was inspired by Anais Nin’s book and created for television by Sophia Al-Maria, is produced by Warp Productions. Ruth McCance, Peter Carlton, Mark Herbert and Kara Manley serve as executive producers. Production got underway in Tarifa in Spain last week, ahead of production moving to Manchester from May. Stacie Passon (Billions, House of Cards) is the director. ITV Studios Global Entertainment will handle international sales. Little Birds is set to air on Sky Atlantic in 2020.
