Channel 4 Acquires ‘The Shield’ For VOD Service All 4

Channel 4 has inked a deal with Sony Pictures Television to acquire all seven seasons of FX’s groundbreaking drama series The Shield for their VOD service All 4. Every single episode of the show is available to stream as of today.

From Shawn Ryan, The Shield follows Detective Vic Mackey, the leader of an elite Strike Team unit, a group of cops effective at eliminating crime but also operating under Vic’s own set of rules. But his rules sometimes cross the fine line between legal and illegal.

Now the precinct has a new captain who doesn’t like Vic’s tactics and wants to bust him off the force – even as the captain finds himself going to Vic for help whenever the going gets rough. The drama series, which was FX’s first original drama series, is produced by Sony Pictures Television and stars Michael Chiklis, Catherine Dent, Reed Diamond, Walton Goggins, Michael Jace, Kenny Johnson, Jay Karnes, Benito Martinez, CCH Pounder, David Rees Snell, Cathy Cahlin Ryan, Glenn Close, David Marciano and Paula Garcés.

The Shield originally aired in the UK on Channel 5 and has more recently been airing on AMC UK. It marks the latest complete series acquisition for All 4, who have been beefing up their slate of content. Other such recent acquisitions for the VOD platform include Community, 30 Rock, 90210 and Dawson’s Creek. The complete runs of The Goldbergs and Schooled will also be made available thanks to another recent deal with Sony.
