ITV Renews 'Vera' For Tenth Season – TVWise

Fresh off of picking up another season of Morse prequel Endeavour, ITV has also handed out a renewal to fellow Sunday night drama Vera. The Brenda Blethyn fronted crime drama will return to ITV with a four episode tenth season in 2020.
“Along with the rest of the cast of Vera, I’m delighted to be embarking on series ten”, Blethyn said. “The enthusiasm and warmth shown to Vera has been overwhelming and we can’t wait to get started. Newcastle here we come!”
Based on the series of novels written by Ann Cleeves, Vera follows experienced Detective Chief Inspector Vera Stanhope as she tries to crack some of the toughest cases in Northumberland. The drama series is produced by Silverprint Pictures and stars Brenda Blethyn, Kenny Doughty, Jon Morrison, Riley Jones, Ibinabo Jack and Paul Kaye. Season nine averaged a consolidated audience of 7.9 million viewers.
Paul Logue is penning the script for the season ten opener. Will Nicholson returns as series producer, while Paul Gay will return to direct. Phil Hunter is the executive producer. Production gets underway this April. ITV Studios Global Entertainment will handle international sales. “I’m thrilled Vera is returning for series ten. Making this show is such a joy and it’s clear that TEAM VERA love it as much as the viewing fans love watching”, Hunter said. “I’m continually overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and commitment the brilliant cast and crew bring to the show.”
