Strike Back is coming to and end. The Sky One/Cinemax special forces drama has been renewed for a final season – its eighth on Sky One and seventh on Cinemax (the HBO sister network aired the first season as miniseries Strike Back: Origins back in 2013).
Based on the novel of the same name by Chris Ryan, Strike Back follows the exploits of Section 20, an elite counterterrorism unit as it spans the globe to stop potential threats, often behind enemy lines. The drama series stars Warren Brown, Daniel MacPherson, Alin Sumarwata, Jamie Bamber and Yasemin Kay Allen.
“Strike Back established Cinemax as a destination for adrenalized, entertaining action series nearly a decade ago, said Kary Antholis, president, HBO Miniseries and Cinemax Programming. “It is with sincere gratitude for the service of all of the past and present members of Section 20 – both in front of and behind the camera – that we send the team of on one last mission to save the world from annihilation.”
This is not the first time that Sky and Cinemax have called time on the series. They announced season five would be the show’s last, but brought the show back with a new cast in 2017. There were also plans for a feature film before the revival went ahead. “I am delighted we’re coming back for a final season”, added showrunner Jack Lothian. “Strike Back is a show that’s always raised the bar for small-screen action, and we’re looking forward to doing that one last time. There are plenty of twists and turns ahead, but I can promise one thing – we’re going out with a bang.”
