StarzPlay has acquired the exclusive UK rights to Nordic thriller Rig 45 after striking a deal with international distributor ITV Studios Global Entertainment. The show’s six episode first season will premiere on the streaming service on Friday February 22nd.
Rig 45 pick up two days before Christmas, when Andrea is sent by Benthos Oil to investigate a fatal accident on a North Sea rig. Met by an inexplicable wall of silence from the crew, Andrea starts to suspect something is very wrong – and when a hurricane slams into Rig 45, cutting off all communications with the outside world, the crew find themselves battling both the elements and a shockingly devious killer.
The Nordic series – which was co-created by Alexander Kantsjö (Jordskott), Ola Norén (Kontoret) and Roland Ulvselius – is produced by Mopar Media and stars Catherine Walker (Versailles, Critical), Gary Lewis (Outlander, Gangs Of New York), Lisa Henni (Easy Money, Fallet), and Søren Malling (A Royal Affair, A Hijacking). Per Hanefjord (Black Widows) is the director.
At StarzPlay – which is now available on both Amazon Prime Video Channels and Virgin Media – Rig 45 joins a growing slate of exclusive first run imports that includes: Hulu’s Harlots and Castle Rock, AT&T’s Audience network’s Stephen King adaptation Mr. Mercedes, and Starz originals Counterpart, Sweetbitter, Vida, and the upcoming comedy Now Apocalypse.
