Speechless has found a UK home. E4 has acquired all three seasons of ABC’s Minnie Driver fronted comedy after striking a deal with international distributor Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution (TCFTVD). No word on a premiere date beyond “coming soon”.
Speechless follows Maya DiMeo, a mom on a mission who will do anything for her husband, Jimmy, and kids Ray, Dylan, and JJ, her eldest son with special needs. As Maya fights injustices both real and imagined, the family works to make a new home for themselves and searches for just the right person to give JJ his “voice.”
The comedy series is produced by 20th Century Fox Television and ABC Studios and stars Minnie Driver as Maya DiMeo, John Ross Bowie as Jimmy DiMeo, Mason Cook as Ray DiMeo, Micah Fowler as JJ DiMeo, Kyla Kenedy as Dylan DiMeo and Cedric Yarbrough as Kenneth. Speechless is currently airing its third season on ABC. Series creator Scott Silveri serve as and executive producer alongside with Fresh Off the Boat’s Jake Kasdan and Melvin Mar.
At E4, Speechless joins a slate of first run U.S. scripted comedies including: ABC’s Black-ish and The Goldbergs; CBS’ The Big Bang Theory, Happy Together, and Young Sheldon; and NBC’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine. This also marks the latest deal between E4 parent Channel 4 and TCFTVD, with the two companies having previously pacted together to bring such shows as Homeland, This Is Us, Bob’s Burgers and New Girl to the UK.
