Artists Studio’s Bergerac reboot is one step close to becoming a reality. The long gestating project, which has been in the works since the indie behind BBC Two’s Gillian Anderson thriller The Fall secured the rights in 2013, has landed at Paramount Network International.
The original series, set on the island of Jersey, starred John Nettles and aired on BBC One between 1981 and 1991. Artists Studios Gub Neal is the lead on development of the potential series, which is eyed as a potential future commission for VIMN’s network of Paramount Network channels outside of the U.S.
Westward Studios, based in Jersey, have come on board as co-producers. Neal will serve as an executive producer alongside Westward Studios CEO Brian Constantine. “We’ve been trying to bring back Bergerac for some time and I’m very glad that we have the next generation of such an iconic show in development”, said Gub Neal. “Updated for the present day, it will deal with contemporary stories-of-the-week that run alongside a strong serial spine.”
