BriteSpark Films has hired Channel 4 Commissioning Editor Tom Porter to serve as their new Director of Programmes. The appointment comes after the Argonon Group acquired 100% of the indie, which was initially set up by Nick Godwin as a joint venture with Argonon.
As Director of Programmes, Tom will help develop and grow the business taking it to the next level. He will oversee the new slate of programming as well as bring in new and popular commissions. His focus at BriteSpark will be on the UK market.
“I’m excited to join such a great company at a key moment in its development”, Porter said. “I have enjoyed an amazing time at Channel 4 but am thrilled at the opportunity to work with Nick and his team to build on their exciting slate.”
He joins the indie after a six year stint at Channel 4, where he was based in both Specialist Factual and News and Current Affairs, with commissions ranging from Guy Martin series to BAFTA-winning current affairs. “Tom’s heavyweight credentials combining journalistic rigour and populist flair make him the perfect fit for BriteSpark as we continue to grow in scale and ambition”, added Nick Godwin. “He will be a great asset to the team.”
