Anna Chancellor (Ordeal by Innocence), Shelley Conn (Liar), Blake Harrison (The Inbetweeners), Richard Blackwood (EastEnders) and Chizzy Akudolu (Holby City) are amongst the guest stars lined up for the eighth season of Death In Paradise, which is set to premiere on BBC One on Thursday January 10th at 9pm.
“We’re delighted to be able to announce one of our strongest ever guest casts and this series not only delivers the usual mix of fun, sun and mystery but also packs more shocks and surprises than our audience might be expecting”, said Executive Producer Tim Key. “One puzzle in particular will have repercussions that our team could never have expected.”
Death In Paradise was created by Robert Thorogood and follows DI DI Jack Mooney and his local police team as they investigate crimes on the tropical island of Saint Marie. The series is produced by Red Planet Pictures and stars Ardal O’Hanlon, Joséphine Jobert, Tobi Bakare, Don Warrington, Elizabeth Bourgine and Shyko Amos. The executive producers are Tim Key for Red Planet Pictures and Tommy Bulfin for the BBC.
Other guest stars include Rebecca Front (The Thick Of It), Robert James Collier (Downtown Abbey), Charlotte Ritchie (Call the Midwife), Kevin Doyle (Happy Valley), Jonas Armstrong (Robin Hood), Ron Cook (Mr Selfridge), Kimberley Nixon (Fresh Meat), Angus Deayton (Waterloo Road), Daniel Ryan (Mount Pleasant), Olivia Poulet (The Thick Of It), Lisa McGrillis (Mum) and Robert Portal (Collateral).
“Death in Paradise is such a well-loved show and it was a pleasure to join the special guest cast for the upcoming series”, said Rebecca Front. “I play the character of Fiona Tait, who is an ordinary woman who’s been hit by an extraordinary tragedy. It was fascinating to explore that, because who knows how any of us might behave in those circumstances.”
In the show’s eighth season, the police team face some complex challenges ranging from a popular local radio DJ killed while live on air, to a group of friends celebrating their fiftieth birthdays finding one of its members dead. DI Jack Mooney (O’Hanlon) leads the squad as they give billionaires a run for their money, and an investigation gets them in hot water. Romance is on the cards for DS Florence Cassell (Jobert) as lines between her personal and professional life become blurred, whilst Officer JP Hooper (Bakare) has his work cut out as he mentors the newest recruit, Officer Ruby Patterson (Amos).
