5USA is adding another procedural to their line-up. The Channel 5 owned and operated dig-net has acquired the former TNT procedural Perception, starring Will & Grace’s Eric McCormack, after striking a deal with international distributor Disney Media Distribution.
Created by Kenneth Biller & Mike Sussman, Perception follows Dr Daniel Pierce, an eccentric neuroscience professor with paranoid schizophrenia who is recruited by the FBI to help solve complex cases. The drama series is produced by ABC Studios and stars Eric McCormack, Rachel Leigh Cook, Arjay Smith, Kelly Rowan and LeVar Burton.
The series aired state-side on TNT between 2012 and 2015. It was cancelled after its third season, largely due to dwindling ratings. UKTV was the first run UK broadcaster for the series. They acquired Perception in August 2012, with the show’s first season airing on Watch (now known as W) in late 2012 and the second season following in 2013. It then moved to Alibi for its third and final season.
For those that will inevitably ask, there is no word on when the comedy for which McCormack is best known, Will & Grace, will return to Channel 5. The main channel acquired the revival in 2017 and aired season nine last year, but while NBC launched season ten back in September there is still no sign of it on Channel 5’s schedule.
