BBC One Sets Premiere Date For ‘Hold The Sunset’ Christmas Special

Category : News, UK News

The Hold The Sunset Christmas special will premiere on BBC One on Sunday December 23rd at 6:20pm, it has been announced.

Hold The Sunset tells the story of Phil and Edith, who are set to marry, up sticks and move abroad to the sunshine. But then Edith’s 50 year old son Roger announces that he’s left his wife, his kids and his good job at the bank, and come home in an attempt to find his lost happiness again. And in a blink, to Edith’s dismay and Phil’s fury, all dreams are on hold. The comedy series is produced by BBC Studios and stars Alison Steadman, John Cleese, Jason Watkins, James Cosmo, Sue Johnston, Anne Reid, Joanna Scanlan and Rosie Cavaliero.

In the Christmas special, it’s the last Christmas that Edith will have with her family before she and Phil set off for their dream retirement in the Mediterranean. Edith’s son Roger enlists her scurrilous one-time flame, Bob The Burglar, to give Christmas its proper flavour. Edith’s sister Joan won’t watch the Queen’s Speech anywhere else. Queenie locks Sandra and Wendy into a wardrobe, and Phil finds himself talking to a ghost. Moira Williams, Humphrey Barclay and John Cleese serve as producers. Sandy Johnson is the director. BBC Studios’ Head of Comedy Chris Sussman serves as the executive producer.
