Good news for Back2Back. The Brighton-based indie has secured renewals for two of their productions: Scrap Kings for Quest, international media company Viasat World and Germany’s ProSieben; and The World’s Deadliest for 5Spike and Australia’s Seven Network. Twenty episodes have been commissioned for Scrap Kings season two, while The World’s Deadliest… has received an order for 13 episodes for its third season.
Scrap Kings follows scrap sellers, big and small, as they smash, bang and blow their way around the UK. From tower blocks to ships, from tanks to bridges and thousands of derelict houses — all construction material has value if you know where to take it and, crucially, when to sell it. Back2Back founder and managing director David Notman-Watt is the executive producer. Nigel Gainsborough (Dragon’s Den) is the series producer. DCD Rights handles global sales.
The World’s Deadliest… is a franchise that uses first-person testimony and UGC footage to explore how split-second decisions can make the difference between life and death. The first two seasons focused on The World’s Deadliest Weather and The World’s Deadliest Drivers. Benjamin Cole is the series producer, while David Notman-Watt executive produces. The third season will be represented internationally by Passion Distribution.
“We put a lot of effort into developing stories with universal traction, which makes these global recommissions particularly gratifying. But it’s easy to understand why both of these series appeal to audiences from Sydney to Stockholm”, said Back2Back’s Founder and Managing Director David Notman-Watt. “With The World’s Deadliest…, I was starting to think I’d seen it all in terms of what people choose to film themselves doing. Turns out I was wrong. As for Scrap Kings, the loveable rogues who make a tidy living out of demolishing the UK receive fan mail from as far afield as Japan, Thailand and Venezuela. Now that’s what I call global appeal!”
