StarzPlay’s Launch On Virgin Media Delayed

Category : News, UK News

UPDATE. November 28th: StarzPlay will be launching on Virgin Media a little later than initially planned. I’m hearing that due to technical issues, the streaming service from the U.S. premium cable network will not be launching on the Virgin Media platform tomorrow (November 29th) as originally planned. Virgin are working to remedy the issue and “ensure the best possible experience” for customers. No word yet on a revised launch date for StarzPlay.

PREVIOUS, November 9th: StarzPlay is widening their distribution in the UK. The premium streaming service, which initially launched on this side of the pond via Amazon Prime Video Channels, will be launching on Virgin Media on November 29th. Virgin Media customers will require a StarzPlay add-on subscription (costing £4.99 per month) to access the service.

Envisioned as the UK home for the Starz brand, StarzPlay is home to several UK exclusives including the J.K. Simmons thriller Counterpart, Stephen King adaptation Mr. Mercedes, and comedies Sweetbitter and Vida – all of which are made available on the same day as their U.S. premieres. Future Lionsgate owned Starz original series will also be available exclusively on StarzPlay on the same day they air state-side.

“The partnership with Virgin Media is an exciting next step in the rollout of the StarzPlay platform, expanding the audience for our wide range of Starz Originals, TV series and movies exclusively available on StarzPlay to a whole new and expansive customer base,” said Chris Albrecht, President and CEO of Starz.

While David Bouchier, Chief Digital Entertainment Officer at Virgin Media, added: “The launch of StarzPlay on Virgin TV will give our customers access to even more brilliant box-sets, amazing movies and gripping TV series such as ‘The White Princess’ and ‘Mr. Mercedes.’ This exciting addition to our platform means Virgin TV customers will be able to enjoy new Starz content as it launches in the US.”
