Thomas Magnum is heading to the UK. Sky One has secured the exclusive UK rights to CBS’ Magnum P.I. reboot after striking a deal with international distributor NBCUniversal International Distribution. The series, which was recently picked up state-side for a full season, is presently eyed for a January premiere.
Magnum P.I. follow Thomas Magnum, a decorated ex-Navy SEAL, who, upon returning home from Afghanistan repurposes his military skills to become a private investigator. The drama series, which is based on the Tom Selleck fronted 1980s hit, is produced by CBS Television Studios and Universal Television and stars Jay Hernandez, Perdita Weeks, Stephen Hill and Zachary Knighton.
Magnum P.I. was rumoured to be on Sky One’s wish-list when they sent execs to the LA Screenings this past May, especially given its appeal to the channel’s core audience. It becomes the third reboot of a classic series to land at the satcaster’s flagship channel; joining both Hawaii Five-0 and MacGyver. It’s worth noting that all three series were developed for television by Peter M. Lenkov.
At Sky One, Magnum P.I. joins a large roster of first run U.S. scripted acquisitions that, in addition to the aforementioned MacGyver and Hawaii Five-0, also includes: Modern Family, NCIS: Los Angeles, S.W.A.T., The Flash, Supergirl, The Blacklist, SEAL Team, DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow and The Simpsons. They also recently acquired the second season of Agatha Raisin, after opting not to commission season two months earlier.
