Skybound Entertainment – the company set up by The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman and David Alpert – has teamed up with Sony Pictures Television to launch Skybound Galactic, a new production company that will finance the development and production of scripted television series.
The new company is being spearheaded by Rick Jacobs, who served as an executive producer on BBC America’s Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency and SYFY’s Wynonna Earp. Jacobs will serve on the board alongside Skybound Entertainment’s Chairman Robert Kirkman, CEO David Alpert, and Managing Partner Jon Goldman.
“Combining the multi-platform capabilities of Skybound and Top Cow’s extensive library of IP with the best worldwide distribution in Sony is an unbelievable opportunity,” said CEO of Skybound Galactic Rick Jacobs. “I’m looking forward to continuing Skybound’s mission to help creators expand their content into new markets.”
Skybound Galactic’s inaugural development slate includes Thief Of Thieves, an adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s comic book series; and Nailbiter, an adaptation of Josh Williamson and Mike Henderson’s comic book series. The company also has a first look deal with Image Comic partner Top Cow. Titles under development as a result of that deal include The Darkness and Think Tank. As a principle backer of Skybound Galactic, Sony Pictures Television will handle global sales for their productions.
“The team at Skybound already has a stellar track record in creating successful genre properties, and like us, are committed to creating undeniable viewing experiences for audiences around the world”, added Keith Le Goy, President of Worldwide Distribution at Sony Pictures Entertainment. “We look forward to many successful collaborations through our new venture.”
