Showtime has renewed their Jim Carrey comedy Kidding for a second season. The premium cable network has ordered ten episodes for the show’s sophomore run, which is expected to air in 2019.
“Kidding has established itself as one of the most endearing and inventive shows on television”, said Showtime’s Gary Levine. “I feel like I have been watching Mr. Pickles my whole life, and I look forward to being entranced by his unique blend of hilarity and heartbreak in season two.”
Kidding follows Jeff, aka Mr. Pickles, an icon of children’s television and a beacon of kindness and wisdom to America’s impressionable young minds and the parents who grew up with him. But when this beloved personality’s family begins to implode, Jeff finds no fairytale, fable or puppet will guide him through this crisis, which advances faster than his means to cope. The result: A kind man in a cruel world faces a slow leak of sanity as hilarious as it is heartbreaking.
The comedy series was created by Dave Holstein and features Jim Carrey in his first regular television role in more than two decades. The cast also includes Frank Langella, Catherine Keener, Judy Greer, Cole Allen and Juliet Morris. Guest stars include Justin Kirk, Ginger Gonzaga and Tara Lipinski. Series creator Holstein serves as an executive producer alongside Michel Gondry, Jim Carrey, Michael Aguilar, Roberto Benabib, Raffi Adlan, Jason Bateman and Jim Garavente.
Under the terms of the output deal between Showtime and Sky, Sky Atlantic holds the exclusive UK rights to Kidding. A firm date has not yet been set, but word is that it is being eyed for a November premiere.
