Netflix UK Acquires DC Universe’s Live-Action ‘Titans’ Series

Netflix UK has secured the exclusive UK rights to Titans, the upcoming live-action drama series that is being produced for nascent streaming service DC Universe in the United States.

The pick-up is part of a wider deal between the streaming service and Warner Bros. International Television Distribution which makes Netflix the global broadcaster of Titans. In the wake of the deal, it’s not clear if there are any global roll-out plans for DC Universe.

The agreement is utilising the so-called ‘co-licensing’ structure pioneered by Netflix, where the streaming service boards U.S. scripted projects early on, providing up-front cash in exchange for global distribution rights. This same model has been used for a range of shows including Designated SurvivorStar Trek: DiscoveryBlack LightningRiverdale and Dynasty.

Titans follows a group of young soon-to-be Super Heroes recruited from every corner of the DC Universe. In this action-packed series, Dick Grayson emerges from the shadows to become the leader of a fearless band of new heroes, including Starfire, Raven and many others. The drama series is produced by Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television and stars Brenton Thwaites, Anna Diop, Teagan Croft, Ryan Potter, Minka Kelly and Alan Ritchson. Netflix has not yet set a premiere date.
