Sue Johnston (The Royle Family, Downton Abbey) has joined the cast of BBC One comedy Hold The Sunset for its second season, which has now started filming ahead of a 2019 premiere
“I’m thrilled to be working with such a great cast of actors. Some are new friends and some are old friends – it is a joy to be joining them all”, Johnston said in a statement.
Sue Johnston will play Edith’s impossible sister Joan. Other cast additions include Christian Brassington as hopeless estate agent Percy. and Shauna MacDonald as Bob’s irrepressible and individual daughter Georgie. Returning cast members include Alison Steadman, John Cleese, Jason Watkins, Rosie Cavaliero.
Hold The Sunset tells the story of Phil (Cleese) and Edith (Steadman), who are set to marry, up sticks and move abroad to the sunshine. But then Edith’s 50 year old son Roger (Watkins) announces that he’s left his wife, his kids and his good job at the bank, and come home in an attempt to find his lost happiness again. And in a blink, to Edith’s dismay and Phil’s fury, all dreams are on hold. The series is produced by BBC Studios, with BBC Studios Head of Comedy Chris Sussman serving as the executive producer.
