UKTV’s Dave Orders US Customs & Border Protection Documentary ‘Borderforce: America’s Gatekeepers’

Dave is taking a look at the frontline agency protecting the US/Mexico border. The UKTV owned and operated channel has handed out a ten episode series order to Borderforce: America’s Gatekeepers, an observational documentary series following the Department of Homeland Security’s elite agency Customs & Border Protection.

The observational documentary, which has been granted unprecedented access to the agency, will follow a team of agents as they operate on the twenty-eight bridges connecting the United States of America and Mexico. This team leaves no stone unturned, revealing all manner of illegal contraband, whether concealed in passenger vehicles or hidden amidst legitimate merchandise

Borderforce: America’s Gatekeepers is being produced for Dave by Stampede Productions. It was commissioned for Dave by UKTV’s Deputy Director of Commissioning Hilary Rosen and ordered by UKTV’s Director of Commissioning Richard Watsham, and Dave’s Channel Director Luke Hales. Cary Bell is the director. The executive producer is Stewart Morris for Stampede Productions. “The jaw-dropping daily drama captured across the episodes is absolutely compelling”, Rosen said. “The Mexican US border is a hot topic and it’s testament to Stampede’s determination and hard work that they have been granted rare access to the bridges to fully document it.”

“This has been a project that’s been three years in the making and we’re delighted that it has found a home on Dave. The access given to us by the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was unprecedented, allowing us to tell the incredible stories of the men and women who have the momentous job of protecting America’s southern border. It is a privilege to be able to share their lives and experiences with the British public, who have an insatiable appetite for real, hard-hitting stories like these”, added executive producer Stewart Morris. “Through our close relationship with both UKTV and DHS we are bringing one of the most talked about places in the world directly to viewers – surprising and entertaining them along the way.  What happens on this border is the stuff of fiction but couldn’t be more real. We are genuinely excited to share this long-crafted series with audiences.”

Borderforce marks the latest commission for UKTV’s Dave channel in the past few months. Back in May, under a unique commissioning model with the BBC, they picked up a ten episode adventure series fronted by Steve Backshall for late 2019. Dave also greenlit Beat The Internet With John Robins, a twenty episode game show fronted by the 2017 Edinburgh Comedy Award winner which hails from Vice Studios; and renewed Yianni: Supercar Customiser for a second season.
