BBC Two has released two first look images of Richard Gere (Chicago, Pretty Woman), Helen McCrory (Peaky Blinders, Harry Potter) and Billy Howle (Witness for the Prosecution, On Chesil Beach) from their upcoming eight episode drama series MotherFatherSon.
From London Spy scribe Tom Rob Smith, MotherFatherSon is described as a political and psychological thriller that sits at the intersections of police, politics and the press. The series is as much a family saga as it is a savage, unflinching study of power and how even the mightiest of empires can be in peril when a family turns on each other.
In addition to Gere, McCrory and Howle, the cast assembled for MotherFatherSon also includes Sarah Lancashire (Happy Valley), Pippa Bennett-Warner (Harlots), Danny Sapani (Star Wars: The Last Jedi), Sinéad Cusack (Marcella), Paul Ready (The Terror) and Joseph Mawle (Game of Thrones). Production on the series is currently underway in London. No word yet on a prospective launch date.
In addition to writing, Tom Rob Smith also serves as an executive producer alongside The Newsroom‘s Alan Poul, Hilary Salmon and Elizabeth Kilgarriff. It is being produced by BBC Studios Drama London, with Lisa Osborne serving as the series producer, while The Thirteenth Tale helmer James Kent is the lead director. BBC Studios will distribute the series internationally.
