Channel 4 & Netflix Renew ‘The End of the F***ing World’ For Second Season

Channel 4 & Netflix have handed out a second season renewal to their drama The End of the F***ing World. The pick up comes close to a year after the first season was released on All 4 and only after Netflix became the global broadcaster for the series outside of the UK. Netflix co-commissioned the second season and will continue to be the global broadcaster.

The End of the F***ing World follows James and Alyssa as they embark on a road trip they embark on a road trip to find Alyssa’s father, who left home when she was a child. After finding themselves embroiled in a series of violent events they are soon trailed by two uniquely mismatched police detectives. The drama series is produced by Clerkenwell Films and Dominic Buchanan Productions and stars Alex Lawther, Jessica Barden, Wunmi Mosaku and Gemma Whelan.

The show’s second season is being penned by series creator Charlie Covell and inspired by the characters from the award-winning series of comic books by Charles Forsman. The series was commissioned for Channel 4 by former Head of Drama Beth Willis and Channel 4 Drama Commissioning Editor Lee Mason. The executive producers are Murray Ferguson, Ed Macdonald, Andy Baker, Charlie Covell, Dominic Buchanan and Jonathan Entwistle.

“Lurching between black and joyous, The End of The F***ing World was one of the most original and beguiling pieces of drama to emerge from Britain in years”, said Ian Katz, Channel 4’s Director of Programmes. “I’m so proud that Channel 4 brought it to the screen and beyond excited that Charlie and the brilliant team at Clerkenwell are giving us a second helping.”

While Beth Willis added: “The End of The F***ing World is a truly special show that constantly intrigues. It has an almost alchemical blend of pitch-black humour and beautifully warm tenderness which marks it out as a truly unique show. We’re so proud that this global success story began at Channel 4 and that a second series is on its way. Charlie’s witty, wonderful world is back and we can’t wait to see where she takes it next.”
