The Purge is coming to the UK. Amazon Prime Video has secured the UK rights to the ten episode series, which will be airing state-side next month on USA Network, with the season premiere and finale also being simulcast on the U.S. Syfy network. NBCUniversal International Distribution handles global sales.
TVWise understands that, as it does with all of their exclusive acquisitions, Amazon Prime Video UK will make episodes available to stream within 24 hours of their US broadcast. The series will premiere in the UK on Wednesday September 5th, with subsequent episodes being made available every Wednesday.
The Purge revolves around a 12-hour period when all crime, including murder, is legal. Set in an altered America ruled by a totalitarian political party, the series follows several seemingly unrelated characters living in a small city. As the clock winds down, each character is forced to reckon with their past as they discover how far they will go to survive the night.
The ten episode series, which is based on the movie franchise of the same name, is produced by Blumhouse Productions, Platinum Dune and Universal Cable Productions and stars Hannah Anderson, William Baldwin, Gabriel Chavarria, Fiona Dourif, Jessica Garza, Lili Simmons, Lee Tergesen, Amanda Warren and Colin Woodell.
The Purge joins a slate of first run U.S. acquisitions at Amazon Prime Video UK that also includes: Dietland, Into The Badlands, Preacher, Life In Pieces, The Bold Type, Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger, Vikings, The Looming Tower, Lucifer, StartUp, American Gods, Outlander, Animal Kingdom and Mr. Robot.
