Universal TV Import 'Ransom' Renewed For Third Season – TVWise

Ransom – the international drama series from Frank Spotnitz’s Big Light Productions – has been renewed for a third season by commissioning partners Global and CBS. The series is distributed internationally by Entertainment One (eOne) and airs on this side of the pond on Universal TV.
Ransom follows crisis/hostage negotiator Eric Beaumont, whose team is brought in to save lives when no one else can. Eric understands criminals better than they do, and uses his insight into human behavior to resolve the most difficult kidnap and ransom cases. Despite the stakes, Eric refuses to resort to violence, even when confronted by some of the most dangerous criminals in the world. While Eric’s considerable powers of manipulation make him the best at what he does professionally, they often complicate his relationships with family, friends and colleagues.
The series was created by Frank Spotnitz and David Vainola and is inspired by the professional experiences of distinguished negotiator Laurent Combalbert and his partner Marwan Mery, who are considered to be among the top crisis negotiators in the world. Ransom is produced by Big Light Productions, Entertainment One (eOne), Korda Studios and Sienna Films and stars Luke Roberts (Game Of Thrones), Brandon Jay McLaren (Falling Skies), Nazneen Contractor (Chicago PD) and new cast member Karen LeBlanc. Production on season three is set to get underway in October 2018 in Budapest, Hungary.
The renewal comes less than a month after the second season wrapped its run state-side and on the same day it is set to launch here on Universal TV. The swift pick-up stands in stark contrast to last year, when the Hollywood trades inaccurately reported that the series had been cancelled when in fact the co-commissioning partners were gearing up to green-light a second season. “It is thrilling for us to continue the heart-stopping and adrenaline-driven action of Ransom with its fantastic cast, crew, writers and our production partners,” said Jocelyn Hamilton, eOne’s President – Canada, Television. “Ransom has found fans across North America and the around the world as viewers tune-in to see the crisis resolution team tackle situations in all parts of the globe.”
