UKTV is continuing their push into AFP with a new John Torode food travelogue. The commercial network has given the green-light to John Torode’s Middle East, a ten episode series which will see Torode exploring the culinary delights of the region. It will premiere on Good Food and later get a repeat run on W.
John Torode’s Middle East follows the MasterChef judge as he travels the Middle East to see what tasty delights are on offer there. As he unearths the region’s best recipes, viewers will learn about the fascinating histories of some of its most interesting foods, meet local chefs, and take away tips to recreate some of the delectable dishes at home. Blink Films UK are producing.
The series has received an order for ten episodes. Financial backing has come from the Egyptian tourist board, with five episodes being filmed in the country. Additional funding has been secured through the Maltese, Bahrain and Dubai tourist boards as well as Rixos The Palm Dubai, Waldorf Astoria Dubai Palm Jumeirah, Radisson Blu Dubai. Each funding partner will either receive on-screen product placement or credit mentions.
This marks the fifth Torode fronted food travelogue for Good Food, funded via AFP. Previous series included Joh Torode’s Australia, John Torode’s Malaysian Adventure, John Torode’s Korean Food Tour and John Torode’s Asia. It was commissioned by Good Food Channel Director Vicky Walker and UKTV’s Commissioning Editor Kirsty Hanson, who also serves as executive producer. The funding deal was brokered by Blink Films UK and UKTV’s Senior Commercial Partnerships Manager Kate Norum. Blue Ant Media are handling global sales.
“Good Food reaches over 3 million viewers a month and nearly five million people have tuned in to John’s previous series on the channel, making John Torode’s Middle East a valuable and attractive proposition for advertisers and partners”, UKTV’s Kate Norum said in a statement. “We are delighted to be working with Blink Films UK again and the Middle East is brand new territory for John so we’re very much looking forward to exploring this eclectic cultural melting-pot with him.”
