The BBC has set the cast for Baptiste. Line Of Duty and Call The Midwife star Jessica Raine has signed on for a starring role in BBC One’s The Missing spin-off, which hails from original series creators Jack and Harry Williams. She plays Genevieve.
“We are so pleased to welcome Jessica Raine to our brilliant cast; her talent and commitment are perfect for Genevieve and we’re really excited to see what she does with the character”, the Williams brothers said in a statement.
Raine joins previously announced cast members Tom Hollander and Tchéky Karyo – the latter of who is reprising his role as French police inspector Julien Baptiste. Rounding out the cast is Alec Secareanu, Clare Calbraith, Nicholas Woodeson, Anastasia Hille, Talisa Garcia, Barbara Sarafian, Boris Van Severen, and Martha Canga.
Baptiste follows the stubborn detective, who is on a visit to Amsterdam with his wife, when he is recruited by the Chief of Police – who also happens to be an old girlfriend – due to his renowned and methodical crime solving skills. Baptiste is rapidly embroiled in a case that looks beyond the beautiful streets, canals and houses of Amsterdam to the seamy underworld beneath.
The Williams brothers penned the scripts for the spin-off, which is being produced by their indie Two Brothers Pictures. They also serve as executive producers alongside Christopher Aird for Two Brothers Pictures and Tommy Bulfin for the BBC. John Griffin is the series producer. Borkur Sigthorsson and Jan Matthys are the directors. All3Media are handling international sales. Production on the series is now underway. Filming will take place in Antwerp, Ghent, Amsterdam and Deal in Kent.
