ITV2 Orders 'The Stand Up Sketch Show' For 2019 – TVWise

ITV2 is adding a new comedy show to their 2019 slate. The youth skewing channel has handed out a six episode series order to The Stand Up Sketch Show, a format that combines both both stand-up and sketch comedy.
Each episode will feature both established comedians and newcomers performing stand up routines and up to 8-1o sketches. Each sketch begins with a comedian telling their story on stage in front of a live audience, before shifting into a surreal reconstruction of the material.
Some of the comedians lined up for The Stand Up Sketch Show include Seann Walsh, Joel Dommett, Russell Kane, London Hughes and Suzi Ruffell. ITV2 said that further names would be announced closer to transmission in 2019. The series is being produced by Spirit Media. Jenny Joyce is the series producer, while Matt Campion is the executive producer and director.
“The Stand Up Sketch Show is a creative and original commission for ITV2 that sits well with our other current offerings”, said ITV’s Head of Digital Channels and Acquisitions Paul Mortimer, who commissioned the series alongside ITV’s Comedy Controller Saskia Schuster. “The show is perfectly pitched at our key demographic of young adults.”
“The Stand Up Sketch Show will offer comedy lovers a unique visual take on comedian’s stand up routines”, commented ITV’s Comedy Controller Saskia Schuster. “We’ve got a great cast lined up that includes some of the biggest names in comedy, including some of the best up and coming rising talent currently on the circuit.”
While Director and Executive Producer Matt Campion added: “I’m thrilled to be working with so many of the UK’s top comedy talent to bring their funniest stand up routines to life via the art form of sketch. It’s really exciting to be producing such a new style of comedy format in the genre.”
