UKTV’s former Director of Programme Acquisitions Catherine Mackin is joining Acorn Media Enterprises (AME) as its new Managing Director.
AME is the UK based development division of U.S. streaming service Acorn TV, which airs a range of UK shows state-side and recently moved into commissioning UK originals with both Agatha Raisin season 2 and London Kills.
Catherine Mackin replaces Shane Murphy, who is exiting as MD after three years to return home to Dubline as Group Head of Drama & Comedy for RTÉ. She will oversee Acorn TV’s rapidly growing commissioning and co-production slate. Catherine will start in early July and will be based in RLJ Entertainment’s U.K. office in London.
A veteran of the industry with a career spanning two decades, Mackin has held a range of programming roles over the years. She served as UKTV’s Director of Programme Acquisitions for the past eight years and was responsible for overseeing scripted and non-scripted acquisitions, co-productions and pre-sales, as well as heading up the content relationship with BBC Worldwide. She exited UKTV earlier this year following an executive restructure. Prior to joining the company in 2009, she briefly served as Acting Director of Emerging Markets, EMEA for BBC Worldwide. She was also Deputy Director of Programming at Ireland’s terrestrial commercial broadcaster TV3, and previously ran channels GOLD and Bravo.
“In the past three years, Shane and his team have established Acorn Media Enterprises as a preferred partner within the production community for high quality international productions, including co-producing deals for ITV’s Girlfriends, BBC’s Keeping Faith and Detectorists, as well as our first commissions of London Kills and Agatha Raisin, Series 2″, said Mark Stevens, Chief Content Officer for Acorn brands at RLJ Entertainment. “While we are sorry to see Shane leave, we’re thrilled to continue the upward trajectory of AME with a seamless transition to Catherine Mackin. With her strong experience sourcing and delivering successful content across many genres, developing long-term external relationships, and delivering content strategies for terrestrial, cable, satellite and non-linear networks, Catherine is an excellent addition to the RLJ Entertainment family and to continue AME’s growth.”
