Showtime’s NYT docu series Reporting Trump’s First Year: The Fourth Estate (AKA Inside The New York Times: The Fourth Estate) will receive its UK premiere on BBC Two on Sunday June 24th at 9pm, it has been announced.
In some ways a spiritual successor to Page One, The Fourth Estate charts the goings on at The New York Times at both its New York HQ and the Washington D.C. Bureau as they attempt to cover the administration of Donald J. Trump. The four-parter explores the coverage of key events including the on-going Russia investigation, President Trump’s address to a joint session of Congress, and the terminations of FBI Director James Comey and White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus.
“This is a stunning series giving remarkable access to the New York Times editorial team during the turbulent early months of Trump’s presidency”, said BBC Two Controller Patrick Holland. “At a time when so many of the mainstream media misread the mood in the USA and beyond, this series offers a candid, shocking and illuminating exploration of the shifting relationship between journalism and political power.”
Reporting Trump’s First Year: The Fourth Estate is produced by RadicalMedia and Moxie Firecracker Films, in association with Impact Partners, with Liz Garbus, and Jenny Carchman serving as producers and directors. In the UK, it was commissioned for BBC Two Controller Patrick Holland through the BBC Documentary Department under Clare Sillery, Head of Commissioning, Documentaries. The BBC Commissioning Editor is Mandy Chang.
