Alan Davies Set For Guest Spot On UKTV's Co-Production 'Frankie Drake Mysteries' – TVWise

Here’s some cross-company synergy for UKTV. Alan Davies, who fronts As Yet Untitled on Dave, has landed a guest starring role on the second season of their co-production Frankie Drake Mysteries.
The 1920s period drama launched on Alibi earlier this year and quickly proved to be a hit; improving the channel’s slot-average by 210%. As a result of the strong ratings in both the UK and Canada, UKTV and CBC picked up a ten episode second season, which has now started filming.
“Frankie Drake Mysteries launched with huge success on UKTV’s premium crime drama channel Alibi”, said UKTV’s Head of Acquisitions Emma Sparks. “The UK fell in love with Frankie’s dynamism. We are delighted to work with Shaftesbury again to co-produce another successful season and can’t wait for more action and adventure with Frankie and her team of detectives!”
In addition to Davies, other guest stars lined up for season two include Natalie Brown (The Strain), Steve Byers (Slasher), Lara Jean Chorostecki (Designated Survivor), Alan Davies (Jonathan Creek), Anthony Lemke (Blindspot), Romane Portail (Fearless) and Vincent Walsh (The Fall). They join returning guest stars Wendy Crewson (Saving Hope), who plays Frankie’s occasional-con-woman mother, Nora; and Grace Lynn Kung (Star Trek: Discovery) who recurs as café and speakeasy owner Wendy Quon.
Frankie Drake Mysteries is set in 1920s Toronto and follows the city’s only female private detectives as they take on the cases the police don’t want to touch. In a time of change and hopefulness, their gender is their biggest advantage as they defy expectations and rebel against convention. Their cases take them through every cross-section of Toronto, meeting people of all backgrounds and means, as well as historical characters, along the way. Frankie and Trudy’s fearless sense of adventure gets them into all kinds of trouble, but they always manage to find a way out. They are new detectives for a new world – but is the world ready for them?
Created by Carol Hay and Michelle Ricci, the drama series stars Lauren Lee Smith (The Shape Of Water), Chantel Riley (The Lion King), Rebecca Liddiard (Alias Grace) and Sharron Matthews (Odd Squad). The executive producers are Christina Jennings, Scott Garvie, Carol Hay, and James Hurst, who also serves as showrunner, Ruba Nadda serves as lead director/co-executive producer, and Teresa Ho is producer. Frankie Drake Mysteries is developed and produced by Shaftesbury in association with CBC and UKTV, with the participation of the Canada Media Fund, the Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit, the Ontario Film and Television Tax Credit, and the Bell Fund. Kew Media Group is the global distributor of the series.
