UKTV’s Dave Channel Renews ‘Zapped’ & ‘Porters’

Dave is sticking with two of their original scripted comedies. The UKTV owned and operated channel has renewed fantasy sitcom Zapped and NHS comedy PortersZapped will return for a third season, while Porters will return for season two. Both have received six episode orders and will return to Dave later this year.

“The characters and worlds of both Zapped and Porters have established themselves as rich, distinct and very funny”, said Luke Hales, General Manager of Dave. “It’s a pleasure to welcome them back for further adventures and I cannot wait to see what they will be getting up to. They’re a fantastic addition to the channel as part of Dave’s continued dedication to commissioning original comic content.”

Zapped has been a strong performer for Dave since it launched back in 2016, while Porters has a somewhat more unlikely story behind its success. The comedy series created by Dan Sefton was stuck in development hell for a good number of years and was even eyed at the BBC back in 2013, before UKTV gave it a shot. The new seasons of both shows were ordered by UKTV’s Director of Commissioning Richard Watsham and General Manager of Entertainment and Comedy Steve North, and commissioned by UKTV’s Senior Commissioning Editor Pete Thornton.

Zapped follows Brian Weaver, an online data marketing assistant, who finds himself abruptly transported to a parallel world.  The comedy series is produced by Black Dog Television and Baby Cow Productions and stars James Buckley, Sharon Rooney, Paul Kaye, Ken Collard and Louis Emerick. It is written by Dan Gaster, Will Ing and Paul Powell, directed by Dave Lambert and produced by Candida Julian-Jones for Baby Cow Productions.

Porters is described as a sitcom about the unseen life of a modern hospital. Deluded Simon Porter dreams of passing his medical exam and becoming a doctor – but by starting at the bottom, and becoming the best porter the NHS has ever seen. The three-part comedy series, which hails from Dan Sefton and is based on his own experiences of working in a hospital, is produced by Dancing Ledge Productions and stars Ed Easton, Susan Wokoma, Claudia Jessie, Rutger Hauer, Jo Joyner, Sanjeev Bhaskar and Mat Horne. Simon Lupton is the series producer, while Pete Thornton and Laurence Bowen serve as executive producers.

“Zapped has now established itself as one of Dave’s most popular programmes, and I’m absolutely delighted to be returning to Munty for another series of dazzling comic invention, care of the creative heavyweights at Black Dog and Baby Cow, complimented by our incredibly talented cast”, added UKTV’s Senior Commissioning Editor Pete Thornton. “At the same time it’s really exciting to be able to confirm the return of Porters for a full series. The first three episodes set out the show’s credentials as a highly original comic creation and we’re very much looking forward to witnessing the cast’s further adventures via the fertile imagination of one of the UK’s most successful and prolific writers of recent years.”
