Little Gem has hired former Channel 4 exec Kate Maddigan to serve as their new Head of Entertainment, the indie announced on Thursday.
Maddigan had been at Channel 4 for the last year serving as a Commissioning Editor on the formats team. During her time in post she looked after such shows as LEGO Masters for Channel 4, and Celebs Go Dating, My Hotter Half and Five Star Hotel for E4.
Maddigan also previously served as the Commissioning Editor for Entertainment at ITV for six years. Before going into commissioning, she served as an executive producer on Strictly Come Dancing, Got to Dance, Odd One In, Joseph: Any Dream Will Do, Eurovision: Your Country Needs You, Glastonbury and Oliver: I’d Do Anything.
“We’re delighted to have someone of Kate’s calibre and experience joining Little Gem. It’s been a real pleasure working with her as a commissioner at ITV and Channel 4″, said Little Gem Managing Director Ben Gale. “Her knowledge, energy and ideas make her an outstanding creative. We’re doing more in the entertainment space and Kate is the perfect person to help us accelerate our growth.”
Launched in 2014 by Natasha Bondy and Ben Gale, Little Gem specialises in entertaining factual programmes with storytelling at their heart. The indie’s slate includes How to Lose Weight Well for Channel 4 and The Family Project for Sky. Since it launched, Little Gem has been commissioned to produce more than 55 hours of documentaries, features and factual entertainment including Five Star Hotel for E4 and Famously Unfit for Sport Relief for BBC Two.
“After seven years commissioning I was hungry to get back to my roots of programme-making and I’ve admired Ben, Natasha and Little Gem from afar so when the opportunity arose to join the team I jumped at it”, Kate Maddigan added in a statement. “I am very much looking forward to growing their blossoming entertainment slate and being part of such a creative team.”
