Channel 5 has agreed a deal with Entertainment One (eOne) to secure UK rights to Canadian procedural The Detail and second window rights to ABC’s Designated Survivor.
This UK deal for The Detail comes after a wave of international sales, with eOne having also sold the CTV procedural to TNT Nordic, Fox Networks in the Middle East), yes DBS in Israel, COSMOTE TV in Greece, SBS Belgium and France Televisions.
“We are delighted to see so many of our partners acquiring The Detail, and have no doubt that this female led, contemporary, police procedural will deliver primetime success as it rolls out across the region”, said Dan Gopal, eOne’s Executive Vice President of Sales, EMEA, International Distribution.
The Detail centers on three fiercely talented female homicide investigators who work tirelessly to solve crimes while navigating the complicated demands of their personal lives. The drama series is produced by eOne and stars Angela Griffin (Coronation Street, Brief Encounters), Shenae Grimes-Beech (90210, Degrassi: The Next Generation) and Wendy Crewson (Saving Hope, Room).
This marks the second UK deal for Designated Survivor. Netflix UK previously secured, and retains, first run UK rights to the Kiefer Sutherland fronted thriller as part of a global deal between eOne and the streaming service. This agreement also marks the second time that Channel 5 has secured linear rights to a show that initially airs in the UK on Netflix, following their deal with Warner Bros. for Riverdale.
This deal between eOne and Channel 5 was brokered by Patrick Roberts, Vice-President of International Sales for eOne and Katie Keenan, Vice-President and Head of Acquisitions for Channel 5 and VIMN UK, and Cherry Yeandle, Acting Acquisitions and Channel Manager, for Channel 5. ““We are thrilled to be working with eOne in bringing these high quality drama series, staring award-winning talent, to Channel 5’s portfolio of free to air services”, Keenan said in a statement.
